I avoid writing blogs on anyone’s death because, for me, grieving is a very private emotion. But my complete incapability to sleep after reading about the death of Bollywood’s most famous actress, Sridevi has forced me to take up the pen, here a stylus.
The spasmodic end of life of such an ostensibly healthy celebrity has made me realize the futility that death is supreme. It is that truth that perhaps we all try to sabotage it, maybe the actress was one of us.
The Sudden Demise:
At times, the most shocking coincidences leave us with unanswered questions.
The first female superstar to have done over 300 blockbuster films, breathed her last on the 24 th night. Her death created a void in all our lives. The Kapoor family experienced a dark day in their lives with her presence not being felt anymore and so was the same with the industry.
Sridevi, the name said it all. She suffered a massive cardiac arrest in Dubai on the 24 th of this month when she was just 54. Her brother-in- law, Sanjay Kapoor confirmed that she passed away on Saturday night at 11 pm at the hotel room. She was there to attend the wedding of Mohit Marwah, actress Sonam Kapoor’s cousin. Her family also states that she never ever suffered from any heart ailment and what had happened was totally unexpected.
Yesterday, after undergoing an autopsy, her corpse was brought to Mumbai via a specially chartered flight to perform the last rites of the funeral. On Sunday, reports given by Dubai government confirmed that her death occurred due to her getting drowned in the bathtub as she lay unconscious upon getting the heart attack.
The Final Word:
Sridevi was the wife of the ace director, Boney Kapoor and will now be followed by her two daughters, Jhanvi and Khushi Kapoor. The Padma Shri awardee stepped back into the fraternity with English Vinglish and Mom in the year 2012 and 2017 respectively after a long span of 15 years.
