OnePlus 2 Design and build

In terms of design and build, OnePlus 2 will be the classiest smartphone in the mid-range segment. The new phone will be smaller than its predecessor, and might come with small or no bezels. Several images have also been coming in, claiming to be the new OnePlus 2, but as of now, nothing has been confirmed by the company. Speculations about a metal build has also been going around, but again, there is nothing certain about the design and build quality of the upcoming device.

Just like OnePlus One, the new OnePlus 2 is also expected to feature the same full-HD display of 5.5-inches. According to recent leaks from CooliCool and Chinese tipster, the new smartphone will be flaunting a brilliant viewing experience with its full HD display. There has also been a buzz about a QHD display and 2.5D glass, but the spec sheet from Chinese tipster and OnePlus’ budget pricing strategy makes us more inclined towards a whooping full HD display.

Hardware configuration

Under the hood, OnePlus 2 will be featuring the upgraded Snapdragon 810 v2.1 chipset with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. The high-end Snapdragon 810 chipset is known for creating severe heating issues in LG G Flex 2 and Sony Xperia Z3+. But recently, OnePlus officially confirmed the fact that it’s latest OnePlus 2 will be powered by the second generation of Snapdragon 810, built on 64-bit architecture. The GPU of this device will be Adreno 430, and you can definitely expect it to deliver smooth performance without any lags or glitches.

Not only hardware, the software equipped with OnePlus 2 will also be updated. On the software front, OnePlus 2 will be running OxygenOS based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The interface of this device will be extremely smooth, and will feature positives of pure android experience with rich customization. Google’s material design elements will be packed with this phone, and you can frequently switch between apps in a buttery smooth manner.

Camera capabilities

The camera capabilities of OnePlus 2 are not yet confirmed, but according to CooliCool, the new smartphone will feature an ideal photography experience with its 16-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front-facing snapper. Leaked sketches have highlighted a dual camera set up with two rear cameras and a single front-facing camera. But either way, the camera specifications of OnePlus 2 will be good enough to produce ideal images under broad daylight and low-light conditions.

Although there is no official update, but most probably, OnePlus 2 will not have anything new in the storage department. It will be featuring the same storage variants with 16GB and 64GB memory, and will not have microSD card slot for expandability. So, just like OnePlus One, the 2nd gen will also give sufficient amount of room to keep a massive selection app and media files.

On the connectivity front, new OnePlus 2 is likely to feature standard support with a rich set of options like, 3G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS/A-GPS, and NFC. The new phone will come with a 3.5 audio jack, but instead of microUSB 2.0, it will be coming with the latest USB Type-C connectivity. Few weeks back, official confirmation from OnePlus came in that the 2 smartphone will come with USB Type-C for external output, data transfer, and charging. Introduced by Apple Type-C connectivity has already been featured in famous LeTv smartphones, but OnePlus 2 will be the first handset in the Indian market to offer this feature.

Fingerprint Sensor

After Apple and Samsung, OnePlus is also bringing an improved fingerprint sensor for enhanced biometric security on its flagship smartphone. According to a recent post, OnePlus claimed that the improved fingerprint sensor equipped with its upcoming smartphone will faster and better than Apple’s famous TouchID. It will store up to 5 fingerprint profiles, and will provide improved security support right from the word go! The positioning of this sensor is yet to be revealed by the company.

In terms of battery capabilities, OnePlus 2 will be delivering ideal performance with its long-lasting battery of 3300mAh. OnePlus One smartphone was backed by a decent battery of 3100mAh, and now, its successor OnePlus 2 will be coming with an improved and bigger battery of 3300mAh. In a Reddit AMA session, OnePlus confirmed this upgrade and made us sure that new smartphone will be smaller than its predecessor, but will feature improved battery support.

In terms of pricing, we can definitely rest assured that OnePlus 2 will be coming at a very competitive price tag. In a recent twitter post, the CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, announced that the upcoming smartphone will be priced below $450 (approx. 28,000). So, it can be easily concluded that the new OnePlus 2 smartphone will feature a great set of specs, and will cost a whole lot lesser than flagships from Samsung, LG, Sony, and HTC.

Considering the entire package of confirmed and leaked specs, OnePlus 2 looks an excellent product for the Indian market. It’s one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2015, and is likely to be a big hit in the mid-range market. Anyway, July 27 is still far away, and predicting too much in advance will be totally unfair!
